Chapter 105 –  Old Wu’s First Love, White Moonlight

Wu Lao’er stood frozen in place for a moment, just as Ye Chan thought her husband didn’t believe her, she saw the sorrow in her husband’s eyes.

“I… I know, I saw it…”

Immediately, Wu Lao’er revealed what had happened when Old man Wu had tried to suffocate the unconscious Ye Chan with a pillow.

He had witnessed that scene, otherwise, he wouldn’t have believed it.

Ye Chan hadn’t expected to have another close call with death.

Suddenly remembering something, Ye Chan grabbed her husband’s arm and said, “Where are the police comrades? I need to speak with them; I have something to report.”

Just then, Zhang Changzheng happened to enter the room.

“Comrade Ye, if you have anything to say, you can tell me.”

“Achen, this is Officer Zhang; he’s the one who found you.”

Ye Chan nodded and then looked up at Zhang Changzheng, saying, “Officer, I want to report my in-laws; they are planning to betray the country!”

As soon as these words were spoken, the hospital room fell silent for a moment. Wu Lao’er was shocked, but after a moment, he said, “No, that’s not possible, right?”

Then, as if he remembered something, he said, “Could it be true? Is it because you found out about this that my parents wanted to silence you? Did they have anything to do with the cave where you were found on the mountain?”

Ye Chan looked steadily at Wu Lao’er and gave a definite answer.

“Yes.”

Then, Ye Chan recounted what she had heard, the information that had nearly cost her life.

Zhang Changzheng wasn’t too surprised, as he had heard about it from Xu Jinning beforehand. In fact, he might have known more about it than Ye Chan did.

However, the inner thoughts he heard was something only he could hear, and it couldn’t be taken as conclusive evidence. Therefore, Ye Chan’s account was still very important.

He quickly took note of it as this matter needed to be reported promptly, and then the Old Wu couple needed to be interrogated in this regard as soon as possible.

Until Zhang Changzheng finished recording and left, leaving only Wu Lao’er and Ye Chan in the hospital room, Wu Lao’er still hadn’t fully recovered from the shock of this incident.

After all, for someone like Wu Lao’er, who had always been honest and had never been involved in major incidents at the Dahe Production Brigade, this matter seemed too distant.

Wu Lao’er was already shocked enough by the fact that his parents wanted to kill Ye Chan. He hadn’t expected them to stoop to such actions, which now escalated to a level of endangering the country, with consequences that were far too severe.

Seeing Wu Lao’er’s bewildered expression, Ye Chan seemed somewhat incredulous and angry. “What’s the matter? Don’t you believe me? Do you think I’m lying?”

Wu Lao’er immediately snapped out of it and denied, “No, no, I’m just too surprised.”

“I’m asking you, if it weren’t for this incident and it was just about your parents trying to kill me, would you plead for them with me?” Ye Chan looked directly at Wu Lao’er, demanding an answer.

After all, if Ye Chan didn’t pursue this matter further, perhaps the outcome for the Old Wu couple would be much better.

Wu Lao’er was about to speak but seeing his wife’s serious expression, he knew she was serious and that this answer was crucial.

After pondering for a while, he said, “I won’t plead for them. How you decide to proceed is your business; it’s you who was hurt and almost killed.”

“And besides, wrong is wrong.”

“What they did was wrong from the start.”

“If it’s wrong, then they should be punished.”

Regardless of whether it was the attempt to silence Ye Chan or the more severe act of treason.

Ye Chan listened to Wu Lao’er’s words and tears fell from her eyes.

She was very relieved by Wu Lao’er’s response.

If Wu Lao’er had pleaded for his parents, she would have been truly disappointed.

Luckily, very luckily, the person she was thinking about when she was on the brink of death hadn’t let her down.

“Oh right, what about the children…”

*

When Xu Jinning woke up, she learned from her older brother Xu Xiangdong about the incident of Ye Chan being found last night.

Zhang Changzheng and his team found Ye Chan in the mountains. Although Ye Chan’s condition wasn’t great, she was still alive.

Moreover, the Old Wu couple had been arrested.

“…Not only that, this morning, many police cars and public security personnel also arrived in Dahe Production Brigade and headed towards the mountains. As for what they were going to do, that’s unknown.”

Of course, they were going to search for the ancient tomb.

Xu Jinning thought to herself.

That’s the only possibility.

It seemed that Zhang Changzheng had done a great job, not only saving Ye Chan in time but also finding out about the situation with the Dahe Production Brigade and the ancient tomb in the mountains.

They must find it!

Xu Jinning thought to herself.

Xu Jinning didn’t expect that just as she was about to have breakfast, Zhang Changzheng, who should have been working at Dahe Production Brigade, showed up.

Xu Aiguo immediately invited Zhang Changzheng to join them for a meal.

“Well, I won’t be polite then. I’ve been busy since yesterday and haven’t eaten anything yet.” Zhang Changzheng also didn’t hold back.

During the meal, Xu Xiangdong and the others asked about Ye Chan and the Old Wu couple.

Not just the Xu family, even people from nearby production brigades were curious about these matters.

Zhang Changzheng shared what he could about the situation.

Things were progressing relatively smoothly.

Last night, after he reported it, the higher-ups immediately sent people. Now everyone is heading to the mountains. With the specific location provided by Ye Chan, they should be able to find the ancient tomb and the things inside it without much difficulty.

However…

Zhang Changzheng furrowed his brows slightly.

The progress of this matter has been relatively smooth, but there’s another matter that hasn’t been going so smoothly.

That is, Old man Wu and his wife only admit to wanting to harm Ye Chan, but they completely deny the charge of treason.

It makes sense, though. If it’s only the former, they might still survive, but if it’s the latter, then they are doomed.

Old man Wu and his wife said that the reason they wanted to kill Ye Chan was that Ye Chan had captivated their second son’s heart, causing their second son to demand a division of property and be disrespectful to them.

They believed that Ye Chan was a disaster, so they wanted to kill her. Once Ye Chan was dead, their second son’s heart would return to them.

“Dad Changzheng, is there anything else that’s difficult to resolve?” Seeing Zhang Changzheng frown while speaking, Xu Jinning couldn’t help but ask.

Zhang Changzheng was about to speak, but seeing so many people at the table, he swallowed his words and shook his head.

This matter should be kept confidential and not spoken of.

However, after finishing breakfast and being alone with Xu Jinning, when Xu Jinning asked again, Zhang Changzheng decided to speak.

It’s just that Old man Wu and his wife only admit to wanting to kill Ye Chan, and they don’t acknowledge the other matter.

Just relying on Ye Chan’s testimony is not enough.

Old man Wu is also very cautious. Even though they searched the Wu family’s place, they didn’t find any physical evidence.

In fact, the reason Zhang Changzheng spoke to Xu Jinning was also to see if he could get some more clues from Xu Jinning.

Sure enough, after he said that, the next moment, he heard Xu Jinning’s inner thoughts.

[Dad Changzheng, you should go to the neighboring Fengtian Production Brigade and find a woman named Wei Shujuan. She is Old man Wu’s first love white moonlight and the mother of Wu Lao’san, born from Wei Shujuan and Old man Wu!]

  1. I knew it! The fact he favored his third son out of all his children and stated how the youngest son was ‘the most like himself. So, I have to ask: did he really take his wife with him to Country R? Or did he kill her later on and run off with his first love and baby mama?

I also find it gross how Mrs. Wu could sleep in the same bed with a man that could plot, steal, kill, and abandon his children completely. But she would be afraid if he ever turned on her? I hope they share a jail cell and make each other miserable for the rest of their days.
