Chapter 159 – Don’t be afraid, I’m here

Just as she thought that, Wen Huihui suddenly felt dizzy, and her vision became unclear.

What’s happening?

Wen Huihui didn’t react immediately. She shook her head, but the dizziness worsened.

At that moment, she heard two “plop” sounds, accompanied by something falling.

She looked up and saw her parents, who at some point had collapsed on the table, seemingly fainting.

Wait, why did her parents faint? Shouldn’t the one who was supposed to faint…

Wen Huihui turned to look at Wen Yulan, but instead of fainting as expected, Wen Yulan looked at her with clear eyes.

Now, Wen Huihui finally realized what was going on.

Wen Yulan didn’t faint at all, while her parents did. With her own dizzy head, Wen Huihui understood.

Wen Yulan hadn’t fallen for their scheme at all. Perhaps she had known about it for a while and played along, maybe even swapped the dishes.

So, her parents fainted, but Wen Yulan didn’t.

“You…” Wen Huihui’s heart raced, fear creeping into her eyes. She wanted to say something, but a stronger wave of dizziness came from deep within her head.

The next moment, Wen Huihui closed her eyes and slumped onto the dining table.

Soon, Xu Xiangdong walked in.

Xu Xiangdong casually and roughly lifted Wen Huihui, who had fainted, over his shoulder, as if she were a piece of merchandise.

“Yulan, let’s go,” Xu Xiangdong said.

“Wait, I’ll go get something else.” Wen Yulan quickly found the keys on Aunt Wen’s body, then found the money and tickets hidden in Aunt Wen’s room.

She didn’t count how much there was, just put it directly into her pocket.

Knowing where Aunt Wen kept her money and tickets was thanks to Aunt Wen constantly asking her to clean the room. Once, she stumbled upon it by accident.

As for the money and tickets, Wen Yulan didn’t look at them much, nor did she plan to keep them for herself.

She intended to buy rice, noodles, meat, or cotton, and give them to the elderly in the village who had helped her before, or those who had been b*llied by Aunt Wen’s family but had to endure silently.

To help them get through the upcoming winter.

Having seen Xu Jinning’s inner thoughts, Wen Yulan knew that marrying her off to the Cui family as a sh*red wife was Wen Huihui’s idea.

So this time, she didn’t plan to let Wen Huihui off easily.

After all, if she fell victim, would Wen Huihui spare her?

The answer was definitely no.

Did Wen Huihui know what the outcome would be like for her at the Cui family’s house? Even if she couldn’t see it, she could definitely guess.

Even if she didn’t seek death herself, she would certainly live a life worse than death.

Since Wen Huihui didn’t let her off easily, seeking her life, what reason did she have to be merciful?

Being kind to enemies is being cruel to oneself.

And weak people are destined to be oppressed, soft-hearted people will be b*llied time and time again.

In reality, she wasn’t that ruthless.

She was just returning the favor in kind, that’s all.

As for Uncle Wen and Aunt Wen, the conniving couple, they couldn’t be let off easily either, which is why Wen Yulan took their money and tickets.

Glancing deeply at Uncle Wen and Aunt Wen, who were still motionless on the table, Wen Yulan said, “Xiangdong, let’s go.”

“Okay.”

By now, the sky had darkened, and there was no one moving outside.

Xu Xiangdong, carrying the unconscious Wen Huihui, followed behind Wen Yulan and soon arrived at an abandoned thatched house in the village, seemingly on the verge of collapse with a strong wind.

“This is it,” Wen Yulan said, pushing open the dilapidated door of the thatched house, which had no lock, only a broken piece of wood.

Inside the thatched house, there was nothing but a dusty, worn-out bed.

This thatched house used to be inhabited by an elderly widower in the village.

Later, when the old man passed away, the thatched house fell into disuse.

Because the house was too dilapidated and small, no one had any interest in it.

However, not long after the old man’s death, some ruffians came in to search, hoping to find something valuable left behind by the old man.

But they found nothing.

From Xu Jinning’s inner thoughts, Wen Yulan knew that this house was where the Cui family’s eldest son would come to take away the person later.

Xu Xiangdong laid the unconscious Wen Huihui on the bed, then closed the door of the thatched house and left with Wen Yulan.

However, they didn’t leave or go far. Instead, they found a thicket and hid there.

According to Wen Yulan’s estimation, it wouldn’t be long before the eldest son of the Cui family came to take someone away.

The two of them waited quietly in the thicket.

Time passed by minute by minute.

After what seemed like about ten minutes, there was suddenly a light ahead, accompanied by footsteps.

Wen Yulan and Xu Xiangdong immediately became alert.

Soon, they saw a person coming down from the direction of the mountain, carrying a kerosene lamp in his hand.

The dim kerosene lamp faintly illuminated the tall and sturdy man before them.

Wen Yulan had good eyesight, and she recognized the man not far away as the eldest son of the Cui family she had seen in the image.

Whether it was due to empathy with her desperate and helpless self in the image or not, even though those things hadn’t happened to her now, seeing the eldest son of the Cui family in front of her ignited hatred and anger in Wen Yulan’s heart.

At that moment, her hand was suddenly grasped by a large palm.

The warmth from that palm gradually warmed Wen Yulan’s slightly cold hand.

Her previously somewhat out-of-control rationality also instantly sobered up.

Xu Xiangdong leaned close to her ear and whispered in a voice only they could hear, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”

Wen Yulan looked up at Xu Xiangdong, and his eyes were full of tenderness.

That touch of tenderness gradually melted away the hostility in her heart…

She nodded and held Xu Xiangdong’s hand back.

She wasn’t afraid, and she didn’t harbor hatred either.

She has already made a change and is no longer the pitiful and lonely woman she was in the image, being schemed against.

Now, she has her fiancé Xu Xiangdong and the Xu family soon to be her family.

Her future will be bright.

She will take control of her own destiny!

While they were talking, the eldest son of the Cui family had already entered the thatched house, and soon after, he came out.

It could be seen that as he came out, the eldest son of the Cui family was carrying someone on his shoulders, most likely Wen Huihui.

After that, the eldest son of the Cui family carried Wen Huihui and walked towards the direction of the mountain, gradually disappearing into the distance.

Wen Yulan and Xu Xiangdong emerged from the thicket. They knew what fate awaited Wen Huihui after being taken away like this.

But all of this was part of Wen Huihui’s calculations, prepared in advance for Wen Yulan, wasn’t it?

They were just returning the favor in kind.

If you do wrong, you should pay the price.

As for what the future holds for Wen Huihui, it depends on her own destiny.

  1. Why were al of her relatives drugged when only one portion (hers originally) was supposed to be drugged??!!!

    1. That’s what I was wondering about, too, lol. I’m guessing there were various dishes that were drugged (rice, meat, vegetables, etc.) and so each family member, besides Wen Yulan, coincidentally got one of the drugged dishes when she randomly mixed up her portions with their portions.

    2. I think it was something along the line of there was two portions of the dish (most likely meat) and while they were looking for the necklace Wen Yulan probably swapped the dishes (she would know which ones were poisoned cause of the vision). The meat that she placed in the uncle’s bowl was likely non drugged and the ones that the Wen family are from were drugged

  2. I have to say that I’m surprised both Wen Yulan and Xu Xiangdong were decisive and pretty ruthless in their actions to directly send Wen Huihui to the abandoned house to be taken away by the eldest Cui son. At the same time, though, it’s understandable because if I were in that same situation, I would most likely do the same thing of giving the same fate to the perpetrator; you would naturally want revenge against those scheming against yourself. Besides, even if Wen Yulan and Xu Xiangdong didn’t do the swap, they can’t predict the other vicious and desperate actions the Wen family might take against Wen Yulan in the future. I just wonder how the Wen parents and Wen Huihui will react when they realize their current situations.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
