Chapter 211 – Jiang Xiao’s Conditions

Jiang Xiao hadn’t expected that when she opened her eyes again, she would find herself back in her youth.

At that time, her mother-in-law Cai Juhua was still alive, her youngest son had not yet died of illness, and she had not eloped with that scoundrel Nan Yi from the educated youth spot.

Everything was still salvageable.

Everything could still be changed.

In this lifetime, she wanted to seize every opportunity firmly, to win Hou Chen’s heart and loyalty, and to become the general’s wife.

In this lifetime, from the moment she returned, although some things were not quite the same as she remembered, most things were still familiar, and everything seemed to be under her control.

But she never expected that now, she would be captured.

She didn’t know who had captured her.

Moreover, this person knew her true identity.

The fact that she wasn’t really Jiang Xiao—no one should have known this besides herself.

How did this person know?

Did he know other things as well?

At the thought of this possibility, a wave of fear surged in Jiang Xiao’s heart.

Since her return, this was the first time she had felt such intense fear, leaving her deeply scared and at a loss for what to do.

“You, you are a regressor!”

The person’s tone was affirmative, and as soon as he spoke, Jiang Xiao’s pupils widened, and she couldn’t stop trembling.

“I’m not, I’m not. What regressor? I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

Jiang Xiao vehemently denied it, but at this moment, her response no longer mattered.

“Jiang Xiao, we were able to bring you here because we’ve confirmed everything. Just answer honestly.”

“I said I’m not, so I’m not! How dare you slander me? Let me go! I need to find Hou Chen. My husband will definitely come to save me.”

Jiang Xiao was frantic, desperately wanting to leave this place.

“Hou Chen? It was Comrade Hou Chen who reported your abnormal behavior. He has long known that you’re not his real wife.”

Jiang Xiao collapsed into a chair, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Impossible, impossible. You’re lying again. I am Hou Chen’s wife. I am the future general’s wife!”

In that moment, Jiang Xiao seemed like a maddened beast.

But deep down, she knew that what this person said might be true.

Did Hou Chen really know her true identity, know about her abnormality?

No wonder Hou Chen had been avoiding her recently, always finding excuses to keep his distance.

He spoke comforting, caring words, but his actions showed nothing.

So, he had long discovered her abnormality, realized she wasn’t his wife.

But, but…

“Why did you tell others? Why did you hand me over? Didn’t you have any feelings for me after over a year together?”

Jiang Xiao muttered to herself, tears falling.

She really did like Hou Chen.

In her previous life, she didn’t, but in this life, after more than a year together, she was completely captivated by Hou Chen—by his strong body, his great abilities, his charm.

“I liked you so much. How could you do this to me?” Jiang Xiao cried sorrowfully.

She truly couldn’t understand. Had Hou Chen’s feelings for her always been fake, merely an act?

She didn’t believe it. She refused to believe any of it.

She had thought that since she was reborn and together with Hou Chen, any opportunities she gained in the future would also benefit Hou Chen.

She had even thought that as their feelings deepened, she might eventually tell Hou Chen about her rebirth.

Of course, she wouldn’t tell him that in her past life, she had run off with someone else, abandoned her husband and child, and caused her mother-in-law’s death.

She would say that in their past life, they had loved each other deeply but had been separated by fate, and that she was killed by Ruan Xiaohui, leaving him with their three children and his mother.

She wanted Hou Chen to hate Ruan Xiaohui and to believe in her deep affection for him.

She wanted to tell Hou Chen that though they were separated by fate in their past life, in this life she had returned and was trying hard to rekindle their love, and that they would have a wonderful life together.

Jiang Xiao felt that she not only liked Hou Chen but also loved him.

She thought Hou Chen loved her too, but reality seemed to suggest otherwise.

Jiang Xiao was unwilling to accept this.

Perhaps it wasn’t just that Jiang Xiao couldn’t accept that Hou Chen didn’t love her. She couldn’t accept that despite her regression, despite being young and beautiful, despite being the favored daughter of heaven who should be adored and cherished by everyone, her life wasn’t unfolding smoothly. She believed that since she liked Hou Chen, Hou Chen should like her back, that he should be unable to live without her.

Hou Chen should have been infatuated with her, crazy for her, willing to do anything for her.

This was Jiang Xiao’s expectation.

But reality was completely contrary to her expectations.

The disparity was too great for her to accept.

The thought that Hou Chen didn’t like her and had even handed her over made Jiang Xiao furious.

In that instant, all her previous feelings of like and love turned into hatred.

Jiang Xiao closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, they were filled with hatred.

She clenched her hands tightly and looked at the person in front of her. “I admit it, I am a regressor.”

The person’s eyes narrowed instantly.

“I returned from more than thirty years in the future.”

“I can tell you about the next thirty years, the country’s development, and many other future events. Whatever you want to know, I can tell you.”

“But I have a few conditions, and you must agree to them.”

Jiang Xiao lifted her chin slightly, as if she had already seized control of the situation.

The person didn’t immediately agree but furrowed his brow slightly and said, “You can tell us your conditions.”

In fact, adhering to humanitarian principles, they didn’t intend to imprison Jiang Xiao or achieve some malicious goal.

As long as Jiang Xiao was willing to cooperate, they could work together harmoniously for mutual benefit.

“First, I want Hou Chen to stay with me. I want him to be my servant, serving only me. Whatever I want him to do, he must do it.”

“Second, I want that nurse from the military hospital, Ruan Xiaohui, dead.”

“Third, I want a mansion in Wangfu Siheyuan in Beijing.”

“Fourth, for big news from the future, I want a million. For smaller news, a hundred thousand, and so on, accumulating accordingly.”

“Fifth, I want some people at my disposal to handle tasks for me, including dealing with those I dislike.”

“Sixth, you must not restrict my freedom.”

“Seventh…”

Jiang Xiao paused. “For now, that’s all. I haven’t thought of anything else yet. As long as you can fulfill these six conditions, I will tell you whatever you want to know.”

Jiang Xiao believed that the conditions she proposed were quite reasonable.

“You must understand, I am a regressor, the only one in this world.”

“Having me means gaining many advantages.”

“Of course, you can refuse my conditions, but you should know that if I go to another country and help them instead, then…”

Jiang Xiao’s words carried an implicit threat.

  1. Gosh dang… I literally have no words to say apart from that… She really got me speechless… 😬

  2. Um.. you can’t threaten a government like that. You can either cooperate with them or be “taken care of”. Even though the future knowledge is valuable, they can live without it.

  3. I have to say that despite living until her fifties in the past life, Jiang Xiao is incredibly stupid for first admitting that she was a regressor and then making conditions for her assistance, which were mostly immoral as well. Is she not aware that the government has ways to make her cooperate regardless of her willingness? She just set herself up for the worst possible fate, lol.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

  4. You don’t really think they’d let you go to another country after you said that, right?

  5. “In fact, adhering to humanitarian principles, they didn’t intend to imprison Jiang Xiao or achieve some malicious goal.”

Hahahahhahaha the biggest joke of the human race, people would experiment and kill thousands just to see how long humans can hold on while being blasted with deadly radiation or some ridiculous shit like that, a real person in this situation seeing the sun again after being captured would be miraculous.
