Chapter 2: “Actually, I Am a Real Witch.”

The world Su Mu transmigrated into was almost identical to the real world. All the rules and daily life were the same as modern times.

The only difference was that everyone in this world believed in spirits and gods, considering them real and not to be offended.

“Witches” were believed to be those who communicated with these spirits and gods. Although people didn’t know if witches truly existed, they highly revered them.

The faith in witches was akin to the belief in God in the modern Western world—everyone knew about them.

The character Su Mu transmigrated into was a minor supporting role, a girl from a poor family who, under the immense pressure of high tuition fees, chose to impersonate a witch and live-stream to scam money online.

According to world law, impersonating a witch was punishable by death.

If Su Mu remembered correctly, tonight’s live stream would lead to the character’s exposure and eventual death.

She didn’t have much time.

The good news was that in this world, a witch was just a symbolic figure. No one knew what a real witch looked like, and searching online for images of witches yielded only a few pictures, all of which were of skulls.

Su Mu began to form a plan.

First, she called her assistant—a little gangster who had partnered with the original owner to perpetrate the scam.

“Shanshan, what’s up?” a male voice answered.

The original owner had never revealed her real name, so the little gangster called her by her streaming alias.

“Xiao Ding, are you free now? I need you to buy some things for me.”

“Shanshan, whenever you ask, I’m free. What do you need?”

Su Mu hung up and sent him the list of items she needed to buy.

She was afraid she wouldn’t have enough time by herself.

At this time, online skepticism about Shanshan the Witch had reached its peak.

“She only shows her hands, playing with bottles. Is Shanshan really a witch?”

“I don’t believe it! Just making potion bottles bubble? Singing an English song? I can do that too!”

“Exactly, claiming to be a witch but only doing ordinary things each time…”

“Although I don’t believe it either, who would dare to impersonate a witch? Just for that, I think Shanshan is a real witch, but witches aren’t as mysterious as we imagined.”

“No way! Absolutely not! Witches can’t be this ordinary!”

“Think about it, would a real witch need to live stream for money? She’s definitely a fraud! She’s just using the witch’s name to make money. In just a month, she’s become the top streamer on the leaderboard!”

“If she doesn’t have a skull, I don’t recognize her as a witch!”

“Even though I don’t know what a witch should look like, she doesn’t seem like one!”

“Guys, I’ve already reported her. Tonight, her live stream will be watched by a special department! If they find out she’s a fraud, she’s done for!”

“Looking forward to tonight!!!”

The topic of witches always easily attracted everyone’s attention, so tonight’s live stream was a major event. Whether they were students, office workers, middle-aged, or elderly, everyone was tuning in. No one wanted to miss the chance to find out if this witch who appeared out of nowhere was real or not!

In such a spotlight, if Su Mu was exposed, she would be doomed.

Su Mu clearly understood the magnitude of the crisis she was facing. She wore a mask and wig, moving through various stores, carefully selecting the items she needed.

First, she needed a suitable witch’s robe. A mysterious witch must naturally have a mysterious outfit.

Next, she gathered some “magical tools” she was familiar with. Of course, the things she bought were ordinary items that just looked strange and mysterious, catching people’s attention.

For instance, a long, black, elaborate cosplay wand, and a realistic, controllable crow toy.

Finally, Su Mu needed some additional props.

“Don’t be put off by this spider’s appearance. It’s actually very gentle, non-toxic, and even more docile than a cat,” the shop owner said with a smile.

Su Mu stared at the long-legged spider for a couple of seconds before choosing another one. “I’ll take this one.”

A customer behind her peered over and said, “Miss, this one may be the same species, but it’s so ugly and scary. Are you sure you want it?”

Su Mu’s determination grew stronger. “Yes, I’m sure.”

After purchasing everything, it was already past ten in the evening. Su Mu hurried to the rental apartment where she usually live-streamed.

Xiao Ding was already there, sweating anxiously. “Sister Shanshan, you’re finally here. We’re already ten minutes late for the stream! And I’ve been monitoring the online chatter—it’s not looking good. What should we do? Should we run? This shady website doesn’t require real-name verification for streaming anyway…”

“We can’t run,” Su Mu replied calmly. “When it comes to witches, they’ll eventually find us.”

“What should we do then?” Xiao Ding’s face turned ashen.

Su Mu looked at his lifeless face, paused for two seconds, and said softly, “Xiao Ding.”

“Yeah?”

“I’ve lied to you about something.”

“Sister, tell me,” Xiao Ding replied, clearly distracted.

“I’m actually a real witch.”

“So that’s it… Huh?! A real… real witch?!” Xiao Ding’s eyes widened in shock.

Su Mu walked into the room. “Get ready to start the stream.”

“Oh, okay…” Xiao Ding couldn’t help but ask, “Really, sister?”

“It’s true.” It had to be true.

Su Mu closed her eyes briefly and then went inside to change clothes. Xiao Ding set up the scene and adjusted the camera.

Another ten minutes passed during the preparations.

At this point, the people from the Bureau of Paranormal Investigation had already concluded that Shanshan was a fraud.

“Sigh, what a desperate move, pretending to be a witch!” One of the two investigators yawned as they discussed the case.

“By now, that Shanshan must have fled,” the other said.

“Of course she ran. Impersonating a witch carries the penalty of death by burning.”

“We can’t investigate the true identity of witches, but… she’s clearly a fake. We should be able to act now, right?”

“Yes, notify the team to check Shanshan’s real name and address…”

Just as he was about to press the arrest button, the screen in front of him suddenly displayed the message: “The streamer you follow is now live.”

The investigator was taken aback. “Shanshan dares to go live?”

He clicked into “Witch Shanshan’s” live stream—

In the dimly lit room, on a black tablecloth, facing the camera, a terrifying spider slowly crawled across.

At one point, it paused, then suddenly crawled towards the camera.

The chat exploded with messages like “???” and “!!!”

An ordinary spider was already frightening enough, but this spider, with its brownish-yellow body, was particularly vivid and hairy, with what seemed to be dangerous barbs on its eight legs. It gave a very unsettling impression.

“Don’t come any closer!!”

Viewers instinctively moved away from their phones, afraid they might touch the creature.

Just as the spider’s body almost covered the entire camera lens, a slender white hand scooped it up.
