Chapter 9: Transferring the Curse

“Are you talking about that store? I haven’t been there; I usually go to the one at the east end.”

“Quick, try on the new clothes! I’ve been wanting to see you in them…”

The chatter around her continued, and they hadn’t noticed the black cat’s presence.

Meng Nian was overwhelmed with fear, her heartbeat accelerating.

“You are cursed.”

“The witch has a black cat.”

“Black always represents something bad.”

No… no…

Meng Nian’s expression twisted. She let out a silent, cold laugh, climbed out of bed, and loudly announced:

“Whoever helps me with something, I’ll give them 100,000 yuan as a reward.”

“100,000?!” Even those who knew she was a wealthy heiress were shocked.

Su Mu used the tracker and followed Meng Nian around campus with Xiao Bu, successfully frightening Meng Nian.

Watching Meng Nian’s panicked retreat, Su Mu felt it was about time.

If Meng Nian thought about the “curse,” she should also remember the phrase “give me your blessing.”

As long as she sincerely wished for the curse to disappear and genuinely blessed her, the task would be completed.

After spending the whole morning, Su Mu was now sitting in a restaurant outside the campus, having booked a private room to enjoy a big meal with her cat.

Of course, the cat ate the dried fish she had just bought, along with some other fairly rich cat treats.

Su Mu ate quickly, with her phone set aside, its screen lit up. Meng Nian hadn’t moved for a long time, possibly taking a nap or too scared to come out.

Ten minutes later, Su Mu left the restaurant, found a café, and opened her textbook, accompanied by the ethereal mist of the coffee.

She could vaguely hear the conversations around her:

“Do you know Shanshan?”

“Of course! Lady Witch, who doesn’t know her!”

“Are you so sure she’s a real witch? A witch who has never appeared before the world!”

“Oh, come on! Lady Shanshan is mysterious and dangerous! She’s so captivating! How could she be fake!”

“Definitely, she looks so dangerous… She used to be so approachable, but she got angry because of our doubts.”

“Haha! I still think she’s fake! Just the idea of a witch live streaming is absurd!”

“Yeah, it feels like all her stuff is just props… Uh, why are you looking at me like that?”

“Agreed! A witch is just a legend! Only fools would believe it’s real! Shanshan is just a fraud!”

“Kid, are you looking for a fight? Lady Witch should not be offended!”

“…”

Su Mu took out her earphones and blocked out their voices.

However, after this incident, she gained a greater understanding of the witch’s influence.

Classmates, friends, the girl in the elevator, passersby in the café… The witch’s shadow was everywhere in the world.

No one was unaware of her, and no one was without reverence.

The only difference was that some people still believed the witch was an illusory and ethereal existence, while others believed the witch would also appear before the world.

Su Mu slowly clenched her fist.

[World Law Article 1: Those who pretend to be witches shall be sentenced to death.]

She briefly closed her eyes. If anyone had seen, they would have found no fear in them, only determination and a hint of madness.

The red dot moved again. It was already past six in the evening when Su Mu closed her book and returned to school.

Su Mu noticed that Meng Nian’s movements were somewhat unusual this time.

It seemed like she didn’t have a fixed destination and was just walking around, changing positions. It looked as if she was actively searching for the black cat.

“The target isn’t planning to obediently bless me,” Su Mu muttered, walking in the direction of Meng Nian without any expression.

By now, she had changed into a different set of clothes and a wig, with a mask covering her face.

She had also swapped out her backpack for another one.

Eight o’clock.

Stars were scattered across the water, and the streetlights cast a soft glow.

By the lakeside, Wang Jun couldn’t hold back any longer. “Meng Nian, is that black cat really still on campus? Maybe it ran away? We’ve been walking for two hours and haven’t seen it!”

Another roommate nodded, looking tired. “I’m exhausted. My dinner’s fully digested. How about we continue searching tomorrow?”

Meng Nian, looking impatient, said, “Wait a bit longer! I’m sure it’s on campus! We have to find it!” They had to wait for it to appear!

Meng Nian didn’t understand why the black cat that followed her during the day wouldn’t appear at night. But she couldn’t wait until tomorrow; the word ‘curse’ constantly tormented her. She had to resolve this matter immediately!

Black cat…

Black cat…

As long as it appeared!

“Fine, let’s keep looking,” Wang Jun sighed.

She didn’t know the black cat had been following Meng Nian during the day, only thinking they had to find it themselves.

The three of them walked along the lakeside path, gradually reaching the end of a small trail.

At the other end of the path was a dormitory building still under construction, so there was no one on this road.

Wang Jun shone her phone’s light ahead. “We don’t need to search here, right?”

“No! We must search! The cat is definitely in a place where no one is around!” Meng Nian ordered.

“Even if you say that, this path doesn’t have streetlights. It’s too dark… quite creepy.”

“What are you afraid of?” Meng Nian walked at the front, her voice calm but tinged with disdain, while her eyes cautiously scanned the surroundings, afraid of seeing something she shouldn’t.

“You’re really brave…”

The three of them slowly walked in.

The night breeze was cool, distant voices were noisy, and the leaves gently swayed.

The three walked to the end, but they didn’t see anything.

“There’s nothing here after all,” Wang Jun sighed in relief, feeling a bit disappointed. “Let’s go back… Ah!”

Her scream startled the other two.

Meng Nian quickly turned around. Where Wang Jun’s phone light shone, a black cat stood, its dark pupils and fur blending together, appearing as a soulless shell.

Damn it!

When did this ghostly thing appear?

“Wang Jun!” Meng Nian called.

Realizing what she meant, Wang Jun exchanged a hesitant glance with the other roommate.

Should they really do as Meng Nian said?

This black cat didn’t look very big…

But that was 100,000 yuan!

Even half of it would cover two years of tuition!

“What are you hesitating for?” Meng Nian’s voice was icy. “Regretting it?”

“No! Not at all!”

The two of them hurried forward and grabbed the black cat.

“Meow! Meow!” The little cat’s fur stood on end.

The three of them ran toward Zhiming Lake. Wang Jun led the way and, upon reaching the lakeside, looked around and whispered, “No one’s here! Hurry!”

The other two quickly followed.

Meng Nian stood at the back, a triumphant smile curling at her lips as the plan was about to succeed.

Perfect!

Just like this!

Kill this black cat!

The curse would transfer, right?

After all, Meng Nian hadn’t done anything, but her roommates had killed the witch’s black cat!

Would the witch still come after her?

There couldn’t be anyone that foolish!

Seeing the two raise their hands to drown the cat in the lake, Meng Nian’s smile grew larger, her expression becoming somewhat sinister and malicious.

Come on!

Buy your death with 100,000 yuan!

Drown it!

In her excitement, Meng Nian’s eyes were bloodshot.

She watched them unblinkingly, unwilling to miss a single moment.
