Chapter 370 – Meeting the In-Laws?
“Brother Xiangbei, university classes aren’t all day. Sometimes they’re in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, and sometimes I have the whole day free. Tomorrow, I don’t have any classes all day, so I can show you around. It won’t interfere with my studies, and since I’m a local, I know this area well. If you want to see something specific, just let me know.”
Xu Xiangbei nodded, agreeing with Huang Minyue’s points.
He indeed planned to explore the capital thoroughly. Besides buying some local specialties to take home, he also hoped to find things to buy and sell in the county.
“Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll rely on you to show me around the city tomorrow.”
“It’s no trouble at all. I’d love to!” Huang Minyue thought, feeling excited inside. How could it be a bother? It was exactly what she wanted.
Just then, Huang Minyue suddenly heard familiar voices.
“It sounds like my parents,” she realized. She and Xu Xiangbei had unknowingly walked over a hundred meters and were now almost at her home.
She looked in the direction of the voices and saw, under the streetlight, two blurry figures that resembled her parents.
“Mom, Dad, it’s me, Yueyue.” Once she confirmed it was her parents, Huang Minyue quickly responded.
Hearing her call, the figures hurried over, and soon their faces, previously unclear, became visible.
It was indeed her parents.
“You girl, if you’re going to Ningning’s house for a meal, you need to let us know in advance. It’s not that we wouldn’t agree, but it’s a long way. Your father and I could come to pick you up.” As soon as they approached, her mother, Bai Ling, looked her up and down, and upon confirming she was alright, she sighed in relief.
In fact, with the days being what they are now, they wouldn’t have been so worried if it had been in the past.
But starting this year, the educated youth could return to the city. With so many of them coming back and struggling to find work, some had become idle and troublemakers. A few days ago, there was even a report of an old lady being robbed, and there were rumors about a young girl almost being…
So when Huang Minyue’s parents heard that she was coming back at night, they naturally became anxious.
If it hadn’t been for Xu Jinning calling them and telling them that her brother was bringing Yueyue home, they definitely wouldn’t have just waited at the doorstep. They might have even gone directly to the small courtyard to pick her up.
Now that they saw their daughter safe and sound, they finally relaxed.
“Mom, Dad, I know how to take care of myself. I understand your worries, but I’m fine, and Brother Xiangbei is here with me.”
“Mom, Dad, this is Xu Xiangbei, Jinning’s older brother.”
Huang Minyue quickly introduced Xu Xiangbei to her parents, feeling a nervousness that others were unaware of.
In fact, Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling had already noticed Xu Xiangbei.
Especially Bai Ling, who was more sensitive, suddenly had a thought when she heard her daughter refer to him as “Brother Xiangbei.”
“Hello, Uncle and Aunt. I’m Xu Xiangbei. You can call me Xiaobei,” Xu Xiangbei also introduced himself.
Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling’s eyes lit up the moment they saw Xu Xiangbei.
There was no other reason; Xu Xiangbei was indeed good-looking.
It was clear that the Huang family had a strong appreciation for good looks.
The Xu family’s appearance was also top notch.
Although Xu Xiangbei was tanned from spending time outdoors, his skin had a healthy, sun-kissed tone rather than a dark, weathered look. His appearance gave off a vibrant, energetic vibe, and his bright eyes, especially under the dim streetlight, seemed particularly clear and lively.
Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling were immediately impressed. They couldn’t help but admire how good-looking Xu Xiangbei was and how well-mannered the Xu family appeared to be.
“It’s Xiaobei, right? Hello! Oh, Xiaobei, you really are very good-looking.”
“Xiaobei, thank you for bringing Yueyue back. Would you like to come in for a bit?”
Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling were very welcoming toward Xu Xiangbei.
“No, thank you. I just brought Yueyue home, and it’s getting a bit late. I should head back. We can catch up another time.” Xu Xiangbei felt it was not quite appropriate to stay as a guest at this hour, so he politely declined.
Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling didn’t press the matter further.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Xu Xiangbei said his goodbyes and left.
Huang Minyue watched as Xu Xiangbei’s figure gradually disappeared into the darkness, her eyes full of reluctance.
Bai Ling noticed her daughter’s reaction and walked over, taking her hand. “Yueyue, let’s go inside.”
Huang Minyue snapped back to reality and quickly responded, “Oh, right. Let’s go home.”
Bai Ling had some questions in her mind but decided not to ask since it was getting late. She directed Yueyue to her room to rest.
As she returned to her own room, she remained deep in thought.
“What are you thinking about?” Huang Yuxian asked as he changed into a tank top and saw his wife lost in thought.
“Old Huang, what do you think of Xiaobei?”
“Xiaobei? He seems quite good,” Huang Yuxian said. He was tall, well-built, and good-looking with lively and clean eyes. He seemed like a nice young man.
Bai Ling almost asked, ‘What if he were to be your son-in-law? What would you think of that?’
But seeing her husband’s oblivious expression, she held back.
It was just a guess, and she wasn’t certain yet. It was too early to say anything now.
She decided to wait until she got confirmation from Yueyue before discussing it further.
However, would she be willing to have Xu Xiangbei as her son-in-law? Bai Ling asked herself inwardly.
She frowned and thought for a while but couldn’t come to a definite answer.
“Dear, it’s time for bed,” Huang Yuxian called as he lay down.
“Hmm,” Bai Ling replied, deciding to put off her thoughts and see how things would unfold.
She turned off the light and went to bed.
…
In the adjacent room, Huang Minyue had finished her evening routine and was now lying in bed, her mind full of joy and anticipation for exploring the city with Xu Xiangbei the next day.
But what should she wear tomorrow? Maybe a skirt?
That seems like a good idea.
Perhaps she should also put on some pretty makeup and wear her little leather shoes?
The more she thought about it, the brighter her eyes became.
It wasn’t until much later that Huang Minyue suddenly realized she was too excited and hadn’t fallen asleep yet.
“No, no, I can’t stay up too late. I don’t want dark circles under my eyes tomorrow.”
With that thought, despite her excitement, Huang Minyue forced herself to sleep…
…
Sitting on the bus, Xu Xiangbei gazed out of the window, reflecting on the encounter with Yueyue’s parents.
He found it strange that he had felt a rare sense of nervousness during the meeting.
It seemed odd to him, as Uncle Huang and Aunt Bai didn’t strike him as intimidating figures at all. Why would he feel nervous?
It was indeed peculiar!
Nevertheless, he was looking forward to tomorrow’s plan to explore the city with Yueyue, curious about what the day would bring.
Probably will skip the next chapters until the story line will be not be that stupid anymore. 🙄
