Chapter 68: Why Are You Single Dogs Laughing?

Qin Mo was sitting too close, and the warmth of his breath brushed against Wen Xia’s face as he spoke. Wen Xia suspected that if she answered “yes,” he might actually lean in and kiss her.

“……”

Just then, the bell signaling the start of class rang.

Qin Mo lazily straightened up, then got up and returned to his desk. He grabbed his English textbook and came right back to sit next to Wen Xia.

Zhao Zichuan, who had been left behind, instinctively turned to see where Qin Mo had gone. The next second, he turned back around. “……”

Qin Mo swapped his English book with Wen Xia’s and opened it to the first page. Below her name, he signed “Qin Mo” and even drew a heart around their names.

Wen Xia: “……”

She really wanted to throw away this ridiculous and childish husband.

The other students in the classroom kept glancing in their direction.

Wen Xia lowered her voice and asked, “Qin Mo, aren’t you going back to your seat for class?”

Qin Mo raised an eyebrow and, in a low, magnetic voice, asked, “Are you kicking me out?”

“I won’t go. I’m not going.”

Wen Xia: “……”

She picked up her pen and, in retaliation, scribbled the words “I’m a pig” on Qin Mo’s English textbook. She even added a drawing of a pig’s head.

The pig head was impressively detailed and absolutely adorable.

Qin Mo couldn’t hold back his laughter. “Draw as much as you want. After class, I’ll give you my other books to decorate too.”

Wen Xia: “……”

At that moment, the English teacher, Wang Lin, walked into the classroom. She noticed the “cousins” sitting in the last row and smiled. “Ah, we have a new student. Welcome! I’m your English teacher, Wang Lin. You can call me Teacher Wang or Sister Lin.”

“I’ve reviewed your final exam paper. Scoring a perfect score is very impressive.”

The entire class gasped in amazement when they heard the words “perfect score,” followed by a collective “Wow.” All eyes turned toward Wen Xia.

Among the science students, it wasn’t unusual for two or three to score full marks in math, but in English, aside from Qin Mo, there had never been a perfect score. In fact, even scoring above 130 was rare.

Wen Xia obediently stood up and responded to Wang Lin, “Thank you for the compliment, Teacher Wang. My name is Wen Xia.”

As she spoke, the hand resting beneath the desk was suddenly held by someone.

“……”

She tugged her hand twice, trying to pull it back, but it wouldn’t budge. She glared at a certain someone, signaling him to let go.

Wang Lin didn’t notice anything unusual and kindly told her to sit down. “Alright, you may sit. Now, let’s jump straight into the lesson. Everyone, please turn to the vocabulary list, and I’ll guide you through the pronunciation.”

Qin Mo stole four or five glances at Wen Xia. She followed the teacher’s lead obediently, reciting the English words.

So good.

He couldn’t help but smile. Then he joined in, reciting along with the class.

Meanwhile, their hands remained clasped under the desk.

Ten minutes later, as part of her usual routine, Wang Lin began calling on students to read aloud. Scanning the classroom, she decided to give the new student a chance to shine. “Let’s start with Wen Xia and go leftward, five words per person.”

Caught off guard, Wen Xia hastily pulled her right hand back, grabbed her English textbook, and stood up. Her pronunciation was impeccable. “Characteristic… radium…”

Wang Lin smiled approvingly at her. Very good.

Next was Qin Mo. His deep voice resonated as he read, “Conclude… conclusion.”

Wang Lin wasn’t surprised by his solid performance—she was well aware of his strong foundation in English. It lacked the element of surprise that Wen Xia’s reading had brought.

After sitting back down, Qin Mo naturally reached out to hold his wife’s hand again, but he didn’t manage to grab it this time. Glancing over, he saw that she had deliberately placed both hands on the desk.

Wen Xia tilted her head and blinked at him, as if to say, ‘Go ahead, try if you dare.’

Qin Mo: “……”

His wife was turning rebellious. No hugs, no hand-holding.

The third student continued reading, but the ones who followed the “young couple” didn’t perform nearly as well.

When it was Pan Sen’s turn, he read “pollute” as “po-lu-te,” clearly trying to pronounce it based on the Chinese spelling.

His pronunciation was a bit odd, which made it even more hilarious.

Wen Xia couldn’t help herself—she let out a laugh. She wasn’t the only one. The whole class burst into laughter.

Pan Sen was already used to being the target of the class’s “encouraging laughter.” Without any embarrassment, he confidently continued reading.

Wang Lin summed up the situation with a smile, “Wen Xia and Qin Mo did well. The rest of you need to catch up, especially Pan Sen. You’re so good at math, but your English is this bad? Are you trying to embarrass your teacher?”

Pan Sen chuckled, “Teacher Wang, it’s not me embarrassing you—it’s English embarrassing me.”

Wang Lin laughed. “If you put that sharp tongue of yours to learning English, getting full marks wouldn’t be a problem.”

Forty minutes flew by.

After the second period, the bell rang for the students to gather for the morning exercises. The class began changing into their uniforms. Qin Mo took off his coat, revealing the clean blue-and-white school uniform underneath.

Wen Xia, who didn’t have her uniform yet, didn’t need to change. She stood nearby, watching Qin Mo adjust his uniform.

Qin Mo looked annoyingly handsome in his school uniform, exuding a clean-cut, studious vibe.

No, a wolf in sheep’s clothing was more like it.

Qin Mo caught her gaze, raised an eyebrow, and then glanced at her chest. “No ID badge?”

Wen Xia suddenly remembered and quickly fished it out. Just as she was about to put it on, a hand took the badge from her and placed it around her neck instead.

Taking advantage of the moment, Qin Mo sneaked a look at her photo. Her face looked slightly round and chubby in the picture, making him bend down and chuckle. “My chubby, adorable wife.”

It was her first-year photo. She had indeed been a little chubbier back then. Wen Xia pouted unhappily and said, “You’re the chubby one! You’re the fattest, Qin Dog!”

With that, she marched out of the classroom with the other students.

Qin Mo raised an eyebrow, took a large step to catch up, and grabbed the edge of her shirt. Bending down slightly, he coaxed, “Alright, Qin Dog is the fattest.”

Zhao Zichuan and Pan Sen, following behind, could only mutter, “……”

Teacher, we’d like to report that someone here is openly dating during class hours.

The second-year Rocket Class stood closest to the podium. Among them, there were only eight girls, just enough to form a single row. Wen Xia stood at the very edge, her light yellow sweatshirt standing out in the sea of school uniforms.

But even more eye-catching than her was the boy standing ahead of her to lead the class—Qin Shueba.

Each class had one person standing at the front to lead.

After a few minutes, it became clear why: they were inspecting ID badges and school uniform compliance.

Qin Mo started with the first girl, moving quickly. In just over ten seconds, he was already in front of Wen Xia.

He paused and called her softly, “Xia Xia.”

Wen Xia thought something was wrong with her outfit and tensed up nervously. In a small voice, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Qin Mo curved his lips into a smirk and moved on to the next person.

Wen Xia, who realized she’d been played: “……”

The discipline coordinator moved from class to class, asking questions and jotting down notes to deduct points from the class score.

When it was the Rocket Class’s turn, he glanced briefly at Wen Xia and quickly moved on.

By the end of the morning, news had spread among nearby classes: the Rocket Class had a new girl, Qin Mo’s “cousin.” She was stunningly pretty, even more striking than Wang Yaoyao, the school’s acknowledged beauty.

Many students from other classes came by the Rocket Class to sneak a look, but they were swiftly blocked by the boys in the Rocket Class.

With only eight girls in the entire class, they weren’t about to let other classes benefit from their presence.

The unfamiliarity of being at a new school had already faded for Wen Xia, largely thanks to Qin Shueba’s presence. She pulled a pink lunchbox out of her bag, handed it to Qin Mo, and smiled sweetly as she bossed him around. “Go get us lunch. I want shredded potatoes.”

Seeing Qin Mo holding a pink lunchbox, Pan Sen couldn’t help himself and burst out laughing. “Hahaha!”

Zhao Zichuan glanced at Pan Sen and sighed, “……”

He was utterly speechless. How could a single dog laugh so openly at this?

Qin Mo glanced at Pan Sen, raised an eyebrow, and slowly enunciated, “What’s so funny, single dog?”

Pan Sen: “……”

Damn it!
