Chapter 393 – Moving to the Small Courtyard

It wasn’t until the car had departed, disappearing completely from view, that Lu Xia, frozen smile still on her lips, turned to Jiang Junmo.

“What did he just say?” she asked.

Jiang Junmo couldn’t hold back a chuckle. “He said he wants you to give him a little brother or sister.”

Lu Xia finally believed what she had just heard.

“He… How old is he? And who on earth told him this?!”

Her words came out in a jumble of surprise. Jiang Junmo smiled and said, “Well, let’s pack our things and move.”

But Lu Xia was still sulking. “Aren’t you curious why our son suddenly knows about this?”

Jiang Junmo looked at her helplessly. “I guess he heard it from someone else. Many kids in kindergarten have younger siblings, so maybe he wants one too.”

“Is that so?”

“It should be. So, shall we make an effort to give Kang Kang a little brother or sister?”

After giving him a disdainful look, Lu Xia finally stopped dwelling on the matter. “Let’s hurry up and pack.”

Because their elder relatives had known about it beforehand, Lu Xia and Jiang Junmo didn’t wait for them to return. They moved to the small courtyard the next day.

As for Aunt Wang, she always took time off when Grandpa Jiang went to escape the summer heat and visited her hometown during that period. She would return only when Grandpa Jiang and the others came back to work.

During this summer vacation period, even Uncle Jiang and Aunt Jiang rarely visited the main house.

You could say that during the summer break, there were hardly any people left in the main house.

Lu Xia and Jiang Junmo had gradually moved some of their belongings in the past few days, so this move only involved summer clothes and bedding.

After a simple cleanup, everything was almost ready.

In the afternoon, Jiang Junmo went out and brought back some fish and a few chickens from an unknown source.

Lu Xia looked surprised and asked, “Where did you get these? Chickens are fine, but isn’t it hard to find fish?”

“Yan Hai helped me get them; he knows where to find them.”

Relieved, Lu Xia herded the chickens into the enclosure and released the fish into the pond.

The fish were still quite small, but they looked like the koi Lu Xia wanted, with their vibrant red color.

Satisfied with the result, Lu Xia reminded Jiang Junmo not to forget to feed them.

As for herself, well, she wasn’t reliable in that regard, and she feared she’d forget.

Jiang Junmo smiled and promised to take care of it.

Afterward, they settled into the small courtyard.

At night, lying on the soft bed, Lu Xia couldn’t help but roll around on it.

She sighed, “This is the life!”

Jiang Junmo, who had just finished showering, heard her and couldn’t help but laugh. “You really like it that much?”

Luxia nodded, “I do! It’s so comfortable.”

Jiang Junmo approached her and said, “That’s good to hear, but… I guess this bed doesn’t make any noise no matter how much we move, right?”

“Huh? I don’t know.”

Lu Xia hadn’t realized what he meant, and before she knew it, she was pinned down.

“Let’s try it out then…”

The end result was Lu Xia lying on the bed, utterly exhausted, not wanting to move at all. Meanwhile, Jiang Junmo was as satisfied as a cat that had just feasted, and he hugged her with contentment.

He said, “This bed is really something; no matter how intense the action, there’s no noise!”

Upon hearing this, Lu Xia shot him a stern look. How much grudge did he hold? Wasn’t it because when they lived in the main house, she complained that the bed was too noisy and was afraid of waking up Kang Kang? Their physical intimacy had decreased as a result.

Now that she had let him have his way, he was still complaining!

Really, the more live longer, the more you get childish.

Chapter 394 – Grandma Liu’s Reflections

.

The next day, the two of them indulged in a rare sleep in.

When Lu Xia woke up, it was already past nine o’clock, and Jiang Junmo had already prepared breakfast and fed the chickens and fish.

Lu Xia quickly got up to eat, then asked him, “Do you have any plans for the holiday?”

Jiang Junmo thought for a moment and replied, “I’ll continue working at the porcelain workshop. There should be some work every few days. The rest of the time, I’ll be studying and preparing for my transfer to the architecture department after school starts.”

Lu Xia nodded in agreement, “That works. I also have some translation tasks, so we can study together.”

“Sounds good!”

As they were talking, they heard a knock on the door. Jiang Junmo went to open it and found Grandma Liu holding a basket of vegetables, so he hurriedly invited her in.

After Grandma Liu entered, she noticed the changes in the courtyard.

“Oh my, you’re growing vegetables in the yard too. I thought you had just moved in and didn’t have anything to eat, so I brought some over.”

Lu Xia came out of the house upon hearing her voice and smiled, “Yes, we’ve been planting for a little over a month, but it’s still small. Grandma Liu, what you brought is just right, it saves us from buying.”

Grandma Liu smiled even more happily after hearing this. “As long as you don’t mind. But I can see that your vegetables are not small either. You can eat them now. Oh my, they look really good, much better than what we have at home.”

Lu Xia smiled and said, “When they grow bigger, you can pick some to taste.”

Grandma Liu waved her hand in refusal, “No need, we have plenty at home. It’s about the same.”

Since the house’s structure was similar, they also had a large courtyard at their place, and Luxia figured they were growing vegetables too, so she didn’t insist.

She then took Grandma Liu inside to have a look.

Grandma Liu examined everything closely and remarked, “I thought your house had undergone significant changes after all the noise and renovations, but it seems not much has changed!”

Lu Xia smiled and explained, “That’s right, not much has changed. I like the traditional courtyard structure, so when we renovated, we kept the original structure and just reinforced it, added insulation, and gave it a fresh coat of paint to make it look newer.”

“That’s good, that’s how it should be!” Grandma Liu nodded in satisfaction and then reflected, “I just love this old structure. After living in it for so long, I don’t want to change!”

Afterward, she talked about her family’s situation, and Lu Xia understood why she felt that way.

It turned out that Grandma Liu had a large family with multiple generations living together. Although the house was quite spacious, it became crowded with so many people.

Recently, her grandson was getting married, and there weren’t enough rooms at home. In addition, the old house was showing signs of aging, leaking during rainy weather, and inconvenient for bathing and drinking water. So, she wanted to do a major renovation, tearing down the old house and building a new one in the trendy villa style.

Lu Xia was surprised to learn that the traditional courtyard could be easily demolished. Then Grandma Liu continued, “He has a good idea, but when we calculated the cost, we couldn’t afford it at all. But the house still needs repairs, or there won’t be a place to live after the wedding. I was initially hesitant to renovate, but after seeing what you’ve done here, I feel relieved. We’ll just follow your plan!”

Lu Xia smiled and said, “It’s simple. If you decide to go through with it, you can have Jiang Junmo introduce the construction team that worked on our house. They are all experienced craftsmen, and their work is excellent.”

“Good, I’ll discuss it with my son when I get back.”

Lu Xia didn’t say much more and then took Grandma Liu to see the backyard.
