Chapter 543 – Actions of the Lu Family

“Hmm, how many times did you meet her?”

“Twice. Once I ran into her by myself, and the other time was when my husband and I encountered her together. She was with her partner that time, but we didn’t exchange many words.”

“Alright,” Officer Lin listened without much expression.

He continued, “After that, did anyone else from the Lu family contact you?”

“No!”

“Really? Not a single person?”

Officer Lin stared straight at her with an oppressive gaze.

Although nervous, Lu Xia remained candid. “No!”

“But we found out that your eldest sister, Lu Chun, visited the beauty salon you invested in and was a frequent customer there. Did you know about this?”

“I knew,” Lu Xia raised her eyebrows, nodded, and admitted. She hadn’t expected them to uncover even this detail.

“Oh? You knew?”

“Yes,” Lu Xia didn’t hide anything. “I accidentally saw her once, only once. I found it surprising because her appearance was quite different from what I expected. So, I wasn’t certain. I went in, asked my business partner, checked her registration records, and confirmed that it was indeed her.

“But there has been no contact since then. I don’t want to have any dealings with them.”

“Who else knows about this?”

“My business partner, Ye Lin, knows. But she only knows that I asked for that person’s name. She doesn’t know about our relationship.”

“Alright.” Officer Lin silently recorded the information and didn’t speak for a long time.

Just when Lu Xia thought he wouldn’t ask any more questions, he suddenly said, “Did you intern at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?”

Lu Xia was surprised by this question and felt a tightening in her heart. She hurriedly nodded, saying, “Yes, because since my freshman year, I have been helping the Ministry of Foreign Affairs host foreign visitors. I did fairly well, so they gave me an internship opportunity.”

“I see.”

Afterwards, there was a long silence.

Just when Lu Xia was feeling anxious, Officer Lin spoke again, “Do you know why you were called in this time?”

Lu Xia’s expression became serious. “I didn’t know before coming, but after you asked… I guessed?”

“Oh? What is it?”

“The Lu family… has done something bad!”

“Yes, you guessed correctly. And I can tell you, they have done something very bad—it’s treason!”

Lu Xia felt a jolt in her heart. The tension she had been feeling finally eased.

She felt heavy-hearted; she hadn’t expected the people from the Lu family to commit such an act.

And it had affected her.

For a moment, she furrowed her brows, unsure of what to say.

Then Officer Lin asked, “How did you feel when you heard about it?”

Lu Xia sighed, “Angry…”

“Oh?”

“I didn’t expect them to do something like this,” Lu Xia spoke the truth.

“In my mind, they were always quite timid, most concerned about their jobs, and had very short-sighted perspectives. That’s why I scared them easily, and they didn’t dare to come bother me. I never expected them to do something like this. Honestly, upon hearing it, I found it hard to believe…”

Officer Lin chuckled. “Indeed, they are timid. According to the current investigation, they didn’t know the specifics or what they were doing. They simply followed your brother-in-law’s instructions, saying that they could make money by helping. So, they did it.”

“My brother-in-law is the mastermind?”

“We can’t share more details at the moment, but I can say that your parents listened to him.”

Lu Xia furrowed her brows again upon hearing this. “So, have the members of the Lu family been arrested now?”

“No, you and your sister, Lu Qiu, are already married and don’t know much about this. We just called you to understand the situation. If it is confirmed that you are not involved, you can leave.”

After hearing this, Lu Xia nodded and felt a whirlwind of emotions within her.

Chapter 544 – Hanging in the Balance

.

Today’s events had left her quite shocked.

However, at this moment, she was more concerned about herself. She wasn’t worried about being implicated or going to jail, as she hadn’t done anything. But what concerned her was her job.

Officer Lin had asked her about her experience at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then the questioning had ended. She feared that this incident might affect her job placement.

After all, even though she had cut ties with them, the blood relation hadn’t been severed. And breaking those ties didn’t hold any legal significance.

So, even if she said it out loud, she was still a daughter of the Lu family.

Sigh, she really hated the people from the Lu family.

Officer Lin’s questioning had almost come to an end.

Before leaving, he asked one last question, “Don’t you want to know what consequences they will face?”

Lu Xia shook her head, “They did something wrong. I believe the country will administer the appropriate punishment. Whatever it is, they deserve it.”

Officer Lin nodded in response and didn’t say much, simply leaving.

After he left, Lu Xia was escorted outside.

Outside, she saw Jiang Junmo, who had been anxiously waiting.

Lu Xia managed to force a smile and said to her second brother-in-law, “Thank you, Second Brother-in-law.”

She had already figured out the reason her second brother-in-law had called her to come.

To avoid the police coming to the school directly to take people, which wouldn’t be good for the school’s image.

Her second brother-in-law shook his head, “It’s nothing. There isn’t much I can do to help. As long as this doesn’t concern you, there won’t be any issues.”

Lu Xia reluctantly nodded. However, she couldn’t hold back and asked, “Second Brother-in-law, do you think this will affect my background check for my job?”

Her second brother-in-law fell silent upon hearing this question. Just hearing this question made it clear it was about work placement.

But before leaving, he said one more thing.

“Prepare yourself in advance.”

Lu Xia forced a bitter smile, “I understand. Thank you, Second Brother-in-law.”

On the way back, Lu Xia was very quiet.

Jiang Junmo probably already knew about this from his second brother-in-law, so he didn’t ask, only offering comfort, “Don’t worry, I don’t think it will have a big impact. After all, they’ve investigated, and they should know that this isn’t related to you. You have no contact with them, and the relationship is bad. It won’t affect anything.”

Lu Xia nodded upon hearing this. “I know. I just feel like my job at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is hanging in the balance…”

Jiang Junmo smiled, “That’s not necessarily the case. You’re so outstanding; they won’t easily let you go!”

“I hope so. Don’t tease me. Don’t worry; I’m not too upset. It’s just that today has been a bit much, and I need to take a breather.”

“I understand,” Jiang Junmo said, patting her head tenderly.

Back home, Lu Xia went to her room and lay down. Jiang Junmo knew she probably didn’t want to see anyone at the moment, so she didn’t disturb her.

In the evening, Lu Xia had already calmed down. When she came out to eat, most of the family members already knew.

After all, this matter involved the Jiang’s daughter-in-law, so someone must have contacted them to inquire about the situation.

Upon seeing her, Grandpa Jiang comforted her proactively, “It’s alright. Since you weren’t involved, it won’t have any impact. As long as you are upright, you have nothing to fear!”

“That’s right!” Aunt Jiang added, “Moreover, you are already married into the Jiang family, so it’s unrelated to them.”

Even Uncle Jiang offered her a few rare words of comfort.

Feeling their warmth, Lu Xia knew that the matter was significant. Otherwise, they wouldn’t all know about it. However, it was clear that the situation was still in the confidential stage, so everyone could only say so much.

Lu Xia could only pray that the people from the Lu family wouldn’t do anything foolish and that the impact on her would be minimal.

  1. Didn’t JJMs teacher and family get tossed into the country side, left to stave to death, on false charges? That same government is still in charge! I feel like grandpa is really naive 😅 but I don’t expect any real harm to come to our MC!

    1. No, they aren’t. Before the resume of university entrance exam, the government was mostly controlled by the “culture revolutionist extremists”. They pushed people like JJM’s teacher for “false charge” which in truth was just a way to “reform” the “counter-revolutionists”.
The government has finally resumed university entrance exam, it’s mostly because the most influential politician of that faction was death and it led to the fall of their faction.
